The University of Southampton is a British Russell Group university. It currently has over 17,000 undergraduate and 7,000 postgraduate students. Aeroacoustics research began in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) more than 40 years ago. The ISVR is now home to the Rolls-Royce University Technical Centre (UTC) for Gas Turbine noise. ISVR enjoys a large panel of facilities including a quiet, low-turbulence open-jet wind tunnel situated in the ISVR?s anechoic chamber.
The work of the ISVR is focused solely on Task 3.2 which is concerned with the design of the UHBR fan module. Our role builds on many years of experience in modeling the broadband noise due to the fan. Our role in the project is concerned with addressing the broadband noise of the fan. In particular, developing measurements techniques within the engine that allows the various noise sources to be identified.
